Susan GahrnsLawyer, Mediator

During close to 30 years of practice, I’ve become known as a “lawyer with heart”, with a caring and personalized approach. I also have a sharp, analytical mind that stays focused on the “big picture”. You can rely on my advice with confidence. Once I understand your goals, I’ll help you achieve them with a sound strategic plan and thorough preparation.

I offer legal services for most of life’s major transitions: real estate, wills, estate planning, marriage, and separation/divorce. Since many of these are interconnected, I can address your legal concerns comprehensively.

I work hand in hand with Anne Guillet who has been my assistant over 25 years. Anne skillfully takes on the paralegal aspects of all matters. This team approach ensures that my clients receive cost effective legal services without compromising quality.

I have long specialized in out-of-court settlement for family disputes. As a result, I have the necessary experience to help you obtain a resolution that meets your priorities – all without the high emotional and legal costs of litigation. This approach also serves the best interests of children.

I’m one of the founding members of Collaborative Practice Ottawa and the Past President of the Ottawa Chapter of the Ontario Association of Family Mediation. I’ve served on the executives of both organizations for many years. I also regularly take advanced training to hone my skills. I share my knowledge at the Ottawa University Law School occasionally teaching Collaborative Practice and judging student Family Law Negotiation Competitions.

I keep a smile on my face by listening to and supporting Blues music. I’m a director of the Ottawa Blues Society and host a Blues radio show. I’m also an internationally certified BBQ judge. I love travelling to the southern United States in search of great Blues and BBQ with my other-half, Bill. Otherwise, you’ll find me on the water or nesting at home.
